I am very excited for this month and the following months! Fall and Winter are my absolutely favourite seasons and they inspire me to do new work and post more. I also have a short creepy story I plan to submit on October 30th based on a really creepy dream I had so here is a teaser:
Infected

Water is a chemical substance with the chemical formula H2O. Its molecule contains one oxygen and two hydrogen atoms connected by covalent bonds. Water is a liquid at ambient conditions, but it often co-exists on Earth with its solid state, ice, and gaseous state (water vapor or steam). Water also exists in a liquid crystal state near hydrophilic surfaces. Under nomenclature used to name chemical compounds, Dihydrogen monoxide is the scientific name for water, though it is almost never used.
Water covers 70.9% of the Earth's surface, and is vital for all known forms of life. On Earth, it is found mostly in oceans and other large water bodies, with 1.6% of water below ground in aquifers and 0.001% in the air as vapor, clouds (formed of solid and liquid water particles suspended in air), and precipitation. Oceans hold 97% of surface water, glaciers and polar ice caps 2.4%, and other land surface water such as rivers, lakes and ponds 0.6%. A very small amount of the Earth's water is contained within biological bodies and manufactured products.

  Water the essence of life. The human body is made up of 75% of it and we can survive without it for a shorter period of time than we can with food. The world was covered in it; that was until the drought came. This drought ripped apart the main cities drying out every major place that didn't have its own underground water supply. The sand tore down buildings and shredded any flesh of a person unfortunate enough to try and face its attack on our society. Empty skeletons of buildings and people now littered the sand covered earth. What once was a beautiful blue and green planet was now a white and yellow covered wasteland. The people who had survived all decided to create a utopia out of what was left over. This perfect society that they had planned had no use for any of the frivolities that had come with time, they wanted to start from scratch and make it pure. They created a place where everything that was considered sinful or distracting was exiled outside of the city to the leftover frames of the old world. High and towering walls were created and eventually a new city took route upon the old. Great houses and buildings that seemed to touch the bare sun. Those who wanted a simple life safe from anything from outside the mighty wall that may corrupt them. The people who did leave moved out there all for the simple reason, the wanted to still have the entertainment of the time before the drought. All of the cinemas, bars, brothels, and theatres had established anew by those willing to make home outside of the walls. They flourished from the discovery of cellars of alcohol-hidden underground from the prohibition. A steady stream of people from inside the city came out to the outer city every night. Even more so when the city found the underground cave filled with fresh water. The essence of life had appeared again to those exiled to the desert. Everyone rejoiced as electricity was brought through by steam generators that boiled the excess wastewater. Even the outer city got a little bit of power to run the theatres and cinemas. Civilization had reestablished, on the sand covered earth and everything was peaceable. Until people started to revert to their old ways. It all started with an old oil tycoon called Charles F. Urschel who started as a leader among the people until he discovered the value of this water. He started to charge for the water and make people's lives difficult as a new capitalist system was established in the city. More and more people flooded out of the gates to the outer city. The essence of life was no longer something free for the people. Scientists who had survived the drought were assigned to purify this water making it safe for the people who could pay the price for it to drink. The only thing for the people living in the Outer City was the liquor they used in their businesses. Slowly a Capitalist system was created in what was once said to be the un-tainted city. The rich got rich the poor soon became poor and a great divide soon closed the one door in the wall sealing the Utopia from the Outer City. For 1 year this system worked until what brought the drought decided to bring a plague upon those who had harnessed the essence of life for personal benefits. Scientists had been checking on the water in the cave analyzing the contents of the natural minerals that had flowed into the water when a drip fell from the ceiling into the center of the caves pool. Then another before it started to increase in frequency the scientists were shocked had they discovered a new water source directly above the one that gave water to rich inhabitants of the Utopia? They lived in this moment of awe and joy until the source of the drops fell from the roof of the cavern and splashed into the center of the water. A dead dog, animals had not been seen since the first drought, yet this dog floated in the water maggots writing on its skin.  The scientists panicked but to no avail could remove the dog from the center of the water supply, and so it sank, the corpse of the dog leaving behind a trail of black blood bubbling on the only water source in the entire Utopia.  The essence was tainted, with an advance form of Necrotizing Fasciitis that was left hidden by the scientists as they dyed the black water a rich aquamarine. The people of the Utopia loved this new water they thought that the money they paid to the system was giving them the true reward of their wealth. Then the bacteria infiltrated the once pure Utopia and turned people into monsters. The Infected was the name given by those in the Outer City who had small jobs inside the Utopia or had friends and family still living inside. The bacterium was ingested by the water and infiltrated the brain and made people go back to their most primitive mindset, to eat and to breed. The entire Utopia was now filled with creatures whose only thought was to eat those not Infected. It appeared that the bacteria had made it that it would not want to eat itself.  But with no food supply for the bacteria inside the Utopia meant that soon it will need to find a new food source. A single drop, had plunged the new world into chaos.

The contest is called Face Your Monster Contest news.deviantart.com/article/16… it is a really interesting contest that caters to photomanipulators and mask artists. My entry is this one fav.me/d4cu33a but I can see already that this contest will have a ton of amazing artists work I hope mine can even stand up to the competition.
